Who we are
We are Jim and Courtney Foss. We spent most of our lives on very different paths, and those paths came together on August 17th, 2019. We have two beautiful children that fill our lives with joy (and gray hair), Sterling (12) and Asher (2). I (Jim) am from Ohio (Go Bucks!) and have been in North Texas since 2008. Courtney is a native Texan and has been in the metroplex her whole life. We attend Calvary UPC in Denton, TX.
We have had a dream for a long time to help people that are bearing heavy burdens and can’t catch a break, not just here and there but on a LARGE scale. There are so many people carrying heavy burdens with no idea where to turn for help. It can happen to anyone, and it can happen out of nowhere. We want to help as many people as possible carry those burdens. A few years ago we both separately felt God calling us to start a ministry to turn that dream into a reality. When we realized God was speaking the same thing to both of us, we knew we had to do something about it. After a long road of not knowing where or when to start and some less-than-subtle prodding from the Holy Spirit, we made it happen. On March 2, 2023 Bearing the Burden Ministries was officially formed.
We commit and surrender this ministry to the hands of God and pray that it is a blessing to thousands, points people to Christ, and brings glory to God. In Jesus name! Amen!
What we believe…
Bearing the Burden Ministries operates under the direction and guidance of The Almighty God.
We believe the Bible is the authoritative Word of God. It is infallible, inerrant, and perfect in every way. All of our actions and decisions are rooted in its principles, and it is our sole source of truth. We believe in the literal interpretation of the Scriptures and thus we believe the following:
We believe there is only one God. He has revealed Himself as Father (Creator), Son (Savior), and Holy Spirit (indwelling Spirit). Deuteronomy 6:4, Ephesians 4:4-6, Colossians 2:9, 1 Timothy 3:16
We believe that everyone has sinned and needs salvation and that faith in Jesus Christ is the only path for salvation. Romans 3:23-25, 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6
We believe the Gospel is the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We obey the Gospel by repentance (death to sin), water baptism, and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (resurrection). 2 Thessalonians 1:8, I Peter 4:17, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 2:4, 37-39, Romans 6:3-4
We believe as Christians we should love Jesus and others, share our faith with others, live holy inwardly and outwardly, live in obedience to the scriptures, and worship God joyfully. Mark 12:28-31, 2 Corinthians 7:1, Hebrews 12:14
We believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit; tongues and interpretation of tongues, prophecy, words of knowledge and wisdom, discerning of spirits, faith, working of miracles, and healing. Mark 16:15-18, Acts 5:16, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
We believe everyone was formed in their mother’s womb exactly as God intended. We believe a man is man and a woman is a woman from birth, and nothing can change that. Psalm 139:13-14, Deuteronomy 22:5
We believe in traditional, biblical marriage between a man and woman. Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-27
We believe in the sanctity of life and that life begins at the moment of conception. Jeremiah 1:5
