Back To Basics was founded in November, 1994, and acquired its 501C3, Not-For-Profit Status, in July of 1996.   The organization has been providing services to the greater Buffalo community since it opened its doors in 1994.   Helping to empower individuals to make responsible decisions and grow in health in strength to become better citizens. 

The city of Buffalo had a total of 73 homicides in 2006.   Over half  of these involved a youth under the age of 25.  One of the cause in the rise of violence in the lack of constructive programming and intervention strategies to help youth cope with conflict.  Back To Basics has been mentoring youth and providing services for those that are at risk, for over ten years.  Our programs are designed to help youth make wise choices, in the face of challenges.  Providing them with structured programming, dedicated and trustworthy mentors, consistent and caring advocates, has helped to reduce the number of repeat offenders in the city of Buffalo.  

Back To Basics worked with 150 youth in 2006, and of the 104 that had committed a crime, or violation, 95 did not commit another offense.   The community lacks adequate programs of prevention and intervention, that will properly address the many problems that youth face today.  Back To Basics has been a leader in the area of helping to reduce violence in the community.  This grant application will help to strengthen our current programs by providing much needed resources.
